    Seattle Fatality

I received this first hand report from a jumper on the scene. Out of respect for the family members and local friends , we’re asking that the individual’s name be withheld until all of their family has been notified. And in all reality, I’m not sure what a name will lend to the situation. What I can do is help to provide some first hand information to assist the community outside of the local area.

The jumper was a female with less than 50 base jumps. She was completing a jump at a local cliff. She was jumping a vented canopy, slider up with a 38”pc. The rigging configuration was suitable for the local object. Her exit was observed to be a clean launch, after which time her descent was obstructed from view. The jumpers explained that they were able to hear her canopy open after 4 seconds, but that she failed to fly out into full view. The two jumpers with her waited a few seconds longer to determine if they could hear anything or spot her canopy emerge. They were unable to locate her from their vantage position and began to execute their emergency plan. Attempts were made to communicate with the jumper, both orally as well as electronically. At the same time, the two called for medical assistance, requesting a medevac helicopter with a hoist. Once the rescuers arrived on scene, they were directed to the incident using vis-panels from the top. It was the understanding of the jumpers that the jumper was found within a very short amount of time once the helicopter arrived. Unfortunately there was no action that could be taken to assist her and the operation was converted to a recovery effort.

The local Search and Rescue personnel did an amazing job mobilizing and with the situation.

There is no additional information that is available. If any comes available, I will post it to the group. Out of respect for the jumper, their family and the local community, please post condolences in the general forum and only post pertinent facts pertaining to the incident in this forum. Please avoid defamation of the jumper or speculation on the incident that is not directly supported. We all know how much this forum is read across the internet.

This is why you need to think before you post; the "reputable" mainstream news will take every post on these sites as gospel and quote whatever little blurb makes their story.

This one wasn't bad, but they have been in the past and they will be in the future...
