BASE jumping is a highly dangerous sport that can severely injure and kill participants. It may kill you. The moderators of BLiNC do not recommend BASE jumping to anybody!

Read the BASE fatality list and the Fatality Statistics page and think long and hard before making a BASE jump.

@see Wiki category Problems to learn about how to handle issues that can occur while BASE Jumping.

Question Sean Kerridge Speed Flying Accident

Sean Kerridge was involved in a Speed Flying accident on February 16th.

I posted a BSBD posting for Sean http://www.blincmagazine.com/forum/b...-kerridge.html

But I found out about the exact cause of his death was Traumatic aortic rupture:
Traumatic aortic rupture - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

What I really want to explore is whether this could have been prevented? I understand this is caused from a massive impact such this is very common in car crashes. But I wonder if a spine or breastplate/sternum protector can offer any protection for this type of injury?

Can anyone shed some facts/knowledge on this topic?

I read a death of skydiver from aortic rupture, cause of canopy opening. I think there is more than one person

Bro, ask Paul how he survived his!

No way a spine protector can prevent that, nothing can. You just hit at the right angle and force and the heart keeps moving in that direction severing the aorta; loss of consciousness is nearly immediate, brain death just a few minutes away. Painless way of going in tho.
