TOMPKINS TWP., MI – A man who was killed during an attempted BASE jump from a television news tower Wednesday night was a "seasoned jumper," Michigan State Police Sgt. Kevin Caldwell said.

Caldwell said investigators were informed by the family of 31-year-old Joshua Sheppard that he was a "seasoned jumper" who was wearing a wingsuit, a specialty suit used for skydiving or BASE jumping.

Caldwell said Sheppard, of Southfield, was found in a field Wednesday, Jan. 14, about 400 feet from the base of a 1,000-foot-tall tower at 4535 Baseline Road in Tompkins Township. Police say Sheppard was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after police arrived at 5:30 p.m.

Caldwell said investigators found Sheppard's parachute "partially" released.
